Electric on-demand shuttle service for rural communities in Central Texas
(February 2020 – January 2024)
Objective: to develop, demonstrate, and refine affordable, accessible, sustainable, and replicable mobility service-enabled electric vehicle shuttle service applications in rural Central Texas.

Electric Cab of North America (eCab) provides Low-Speed Electric Vehicles (LSEVs) and drivers within the City of Bastrop, Texas. eCab partners with Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) to extend on-demand transportation during after-hours and weekends when CARTS does not typically operate. The microtransit service collects data and looks at multiple metrics to measure impact.

Visit eCab’s website at or, if you are in the Bastrop area, download eCab’s app and take a ride. Independent of this project,  you may see eCabs operating as on-demand taxis in downtown Austin.

Project Manager: LSCFA
Key Partner: CARTS
Research & data analysis: Wheels & Water, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
In-kind partners: The City of Bastrop, Visit Bastrop, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, and MTM, Inc.

Pilot Electrified Fleets in Urban & Regional Applications
(August 2021 – December 2024)

The eTruck project is lead by the University of Texas – Austin in conjunction with the University of Tennessee.  LSCFA’s role is to recruit fleets using medium-duty trucks (classes 4 and 5) to test an electric vehicle in their application.  Austin area fleets will be running the trucks in their operations until December 2022.  The trucks will then go to fleets in San Antonio, Houston and the Dallas areas.    LSCRA is also helping to publicize this project and the fleet managers experiences.
